To the Younger Me

I see you there all alone.
Staring at the floor.
And all the people you love in life,
Are kept behind the door.
Your family has a lot of hidden hurts,
That no one ever voices.
The sadness and hurt are buried well
And very limited are your choices.
You have been taught to manage pain,
By stuffing it deep inside.
It will be one of the most challenging tasks
To explore it far and wide.
I see you at your father’s death,
Fake smiling over the tears.
You will carry this pain held so deep
For oh so many years.
You have fears and anger not expressed
That must stay down deep.
However, over time they will rise to the surface
And they will begin to seep.
To look back in future years,
Will require you to look at the shadows on the wall
And see that what you thought was real
Wasn’t truth at all.
The “sun” will at times be too bright.
You will want to turn back many times.
But keep exploring your story more,
And reading between the lines.
Keep looking, feeling, and acknowledging truth
This is the primary task.
For this will bring your heart alive,
And help remove your mask.
You will expose the lies layer by layer
And prodding all the more.
Until you have named them one by one,
And finally reach your core.
You will find Jesus there
He holds you in his gentle hands.
He runs to you and hugs you close
He will always be your solid rock on which to stand.
He provides the living water,
That refreshes your soul through and through,
He has known you from your mother’s womb
And He sees the real you.
You will have pain
You will know love.
You will find peace
That only comes from above.
